Prices for most basic foodstuffs have increased significantly on the eve of “Green Monday”.
In some cases, the cost of goods has increased by up to 60%.
Compared to last year, the 800-gram package of octopus under the Foodpax brand increased by 51 percent from 5.50 to 8.35 euros. The cost of tahini has increased by an average of 29 percent.
Traditional lagana tortillas rose slightly by 3 percent, from 1.14 euros last year to 1.18 euros in 2023. However, tachinopita rose by 23 percent, from 1.51 to 1.86 euros.
A package of small squid rose by 5%, from 12.69 euros per kilogram to 13.37 euros, while a larger package of squid rose by 21%, from 17.05 euros to 20.64 euros.
Are there any products for which prices have decreased?
Yes, there is! But there aren’t many of them though. These are mainly fruits and vegetables. Merlin oranges fell by 10% from 1.61 euros last year to 1.45 euros, and celery fell by 20% from 1.95 euros to 1.56 euros.
It is worth noting that the study averaged prices in 76 retail outlets, including 21 large supermarkets, 19 small stores and 36 fruit markets.
